Museums

Shropshire offers the tourist a perfect destination for culture, education and entertainment as it enjoys a diverse mix of fascinating and intriguing museums.

The jewel in Shropshire’s crown is the astonishing World Heritage Site in the Ironbridge Gorge. Known as the ‘Birthplace of Industry’, this is where the industrial revolution began with the production of the worlds first cast Iron bridge.

Today, the location forms the centrepiece of a remarkable series of tourist attractions including the Coalport China Museum, Blist’s Hill Victorian Town Museum, Jackfield Tile museum and the modern Enginuity museum.

As a complete contrast to the ancient world of Ironbridge, the nearby Cosford Air Museum features a vast collection of historical war planes and missiles as well as hosting the National Cold War Exhibition.
